Lab Values
As a lab, we value communication and collaboration in our research. This fosters a supportive and engaging environment for scientists to help each other through experimental questions and problem solving. We cultivate a non-hierarchical structure that values and encourages contribution from everyone.
The principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are important to our group. Diversity is the presence of a variety of characteristics and identities, both visible & invisible, among a group of people. Equity is providing fair treatment and ensuring that all people have access to opportunities and advancement. It further means addressing and correcting systemic barriers that prevent the full participation of all. Inclusion is working with scientists to create an inclusive culture where we are all inspired to interact through mutual respect, support, and appreciation of differences.
Keeping the principles of DEI active in our lab helps foster better research, as our differences, and our attention to mutual respect and support allow us to approach our research in new and exciting ways. We hold ourselves accountable to fulfill the following principles individually and as a team:
◉ We value and recognize the different cultures, ethnicities, and backgrounds of everyone in the lab.
◉ We believe that everyone has something unique to contribute scientifically and personally to the lab.
◉ We are committed to working to increase the diversity of science and consider outreach an integral part of our research mission.
Outreach
Caltech offers a variety of ways to give back to the community and our lab utilizes these resources to spread awareness and appreciation of science.
