Gio earned his undergraduate degree in Pharmacy – Biochemistry at the University of Sao Paulo. Prior to beginning his Ph.D., he worked in the laboratory of Paul Adams as part of the Structural Biology group at the Joint BioEnergy Institute in Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Gio joined the Voorhees lab in 2019, where he is studying membrane protein structure and function.
