Gina Mawla, Ph.D
Postdoctoral Scholar Research Associate in Biology and Biological Engineering
Profile:
Gina received her B.S. in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology from UC Santa Cruz in 2012 and earned a Ph.D. from the Department of Biology at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2020. She conducted her doctoral research in the laboratory of Dr. Tania Baker, where she applied biochemical, genetic and molecular approaches to discover new forms of bacterial AAA+ proteases and understand their roles in organismal pathogenesis. In early 2023, Gina joined the Voorhees laboratory as a postdoc where she is currently pursuing questions related to mammalian protein trafficking and mitochondrial biology.
